The vineyard

An environmental approach

Since 2020, the Domaine has been certified organic, demonstrating our commitment to viticulture that respects the environment and biodiversity.

We promote the natural balance of the estate through various initiatives: perches have been installed to welcome birds of prey, valuable allies in rodent control, and beehives have been set up to protect bees, essential for pollination.

In addition, we limit mowing to two or three times a year in order to preserve the flora and natural habitats.

These sustainable practices, combined with the exclusion of chemicals, reinforce our ecological approach while ensuring the quality of our wines and the protection of our ecosystem.

Interspecific grape varieties

At Château de Bioul, we have adopted interspecific grape varieties that are resistant to diseases such as mildew and powdery mildew.

These innovative varieties, adapted to climate change, drastically reduce the use of phytosanitary treatments, thereby preserving soil, water and biodiversity.

This approach is part of our commitment to sustainable viticulture, while offering quality wines that faithfully reflect our terroir.

Biodynamics

We go beyond organic farming by integrating biodynamic practices. This holistic approach is inspired by natural cycles, and aims to enhance the vitality of the vines, the fertility of the soil and the overall balance of the estate.

What this means for our wines and our estate

A living, fertile soil: Biodynamic practices strengthen the soil ecosystem, allowing the vines to flourish.

An authentic expression of terroir : Thanks to these natural methods, our wines sincerely reflect the character of the terroir and the nuances of each vintage.

Global harmony: Biodynamic viticulture encourages a balance between the vines, the surrounding ecosystems and cosmic cycles, making our estate part of a sustainable dynamic that respects nature.

There's nothing like a visit to get a feel for it!

Parcel farming

we have adopted a parcel-based culture that gives a unique identity to each of our cuvées.Each wine is the reflection of a specific plot, expressing its natural characteristics and the grape varieties grown there.

For example, Terre Charlot comes exclusively from the parcel of the same name, as does Batte de la Reine, from the Batte de la Reine parcel.

This approach enables us to preserve and bring out the full expression of the terroir of each plot. The wines are blended from grapes grown on these parcels, guaranteeing authentic cuvées, marked by their origin and typical character.

Winemaking

We prefer to use only stainless steel vats and egg-shaped concrete vats to make our wines.

This approach aims to preserve as much of the fruit's natural purity and flavour as possible, without altering or masking its authenticity.

The stainless steel vats allow precise control of fermentation temperatures, while the ovoid vats encourage natural micro-oxygenation and gentle circulation of the lees, enhancing the balance and finesse of the wines.

Under the expert guidance of our cellar master, every decision is taken in the service of the wine, to fully reveal its character and the faithful expression of our terroir.
